The Schulte tables are considered one of the most effective brain trainers for improving peripheral vision, attention, and memory.

The method was established by the German psychiatrist Walter Schulte. It was previously used as a psychodiagnostic test to study the effects of attention. As a simulator for children, the tables began to be used much later. Nowadays, Schulte’s tables are mostly used by psychologists for different studies.

How does the method work?

The symbols on the table are read from visual memory simultaneously, not separately. This undoubtedly contributes to the acceleration of intellectual development.

Psychologists also note that during the exercises with Schulte’s table, a person is immersed in a state of concentration of attention, similar to meditative trance. This state of mind allows a person to increase the efficiency of daily activities, training, and work. Another interesting fact is that Schulte’s tables were used in the preparation of pilots for attention training, visual response, and the development of peripheral vision.

What exactly is Schulte’s table?

It consists of 5×5 rows and columns, in which the numbers from 1 to 25 are arranged randomly. The purpose of working with Schulte’s table is to search and find each of the numbers, starting from 1, in the shortest possible time. The focus point of the eyes should be in the middle of the table, and the person has to search and find each number without shifting their eyes away.

Schulte tables could be used as a fun activity or leisure game for students of all ages.

During the exercise, the frontal lobes of the cerebral cortex were activated. Undoubtedly, this will allow the child to increase their concentration, and thought process, and put their mind into a functional state; to develop their memory and quick decision-making skills.

Schulte’s tables are purposeful exercises implemented along with many other techniques in SmartyKids courses.
