There comes a time in every parent’s life in which he has to decide how much time to allow his child to devote to computer games daily.

Most of you have probably repeatedly remarked to your child that he spends too much time playing his favorite computer game because you are concerned about how it will affect his health in the long run.

Did you know that according to studies, computer games bring not only negatives but also benefits for your children, if they are not overused, of course? Which are they?

Now we can display some of them:

✔️Educational and logical games are useful for a child’s cognitive development, improving concentration and memory.

✔️Games develop a child’s reaction, attention, and motor skills.

✔️Studies of 53 preschool children at Deacon University in Melbourne, Australia, show that children who play interactive games also have better motor skills than those who don’t.

✔️Scientists note that children who play action games read faster and absorb what they read better.

✔️Playing games reduces feelings of stress and depression. A study conducted in 2009 found that gamers who suffer from problems such as stress and depression are able to get out of their frustration and aggression precisely by playing games. Research confirmed that games help children calm down and relieve stress.

✔️Games improve decision-making skills. Most video games require quick reactions and split-second decisions that are often critical to the virtual character’s survival. Cognitive neuroscientists at the University of Rochester in New York have found that games give players’ brains plenty of practice that serves to make decisions in the real world as well. Scientists suggest that action-oriented games act as a simulator for the decision-making process and give players several opportunities to make a decision according to the inferred information from their surroundings, which guides them to react precisely.

✔️While playing games, children learn to use new and different technologies, understanding helpful things about the operation of individual tools.

✔️Games can improve children’s knowledge of English.

We remind you again that these benefits can easily become harmful if the child spends too much time in front of the computer.

Let’s list some of the negative consequences that can appear from excessive gaming, as a result:

❌Visual impairments;

❌Development of spinal and joint diseases;

❌If children spend too much time in front of electronic devices, they could become more introverted;

❌Appearance of computer addiction is possible.

As you can see, it is not worth altogether banning your child from playing on the computer. However, we recommend you limit the time he is allowed to spend in front of the computer each day and remind him of the importance of 15-minute breaks during games.
